Pompei

10/06/08: Lovely European breakfast on the dot of 8am and not before when Kerry asked the lady the night before! Bus then train to Pompei. Had 2.5 hour look around the ruins with auto guides which were great - we could move at our own pace and try to avoid the hoards of guided tourists! Very impressed with this restoration project - Mt Vesuvius eruption devastated the whole town - covered it in 2 meters of ash. They had had a major earthquake 2oo years or so before and some of the areas were restoration projects post earthquake period. with the bones of the people left they filled the cavities left by the bodies with plaster to recreate the body postures at the time of death - poor things! It was a thriving community pre eruption - even a brothel! Got lots of photos as you can see - also very warm 30 degrees.
