26/05/08: That evening we rode in a motor boat up the Nile to a Nubian Village for a traditional dinner and cultural music and dance show. We got a great view of Aswan from the Nile - some kids rowed up and latched on and sang to us - for tips! The show and food were awesome - Robyn got her arms painted with henna so she was happy - I stupidly put my fingers on it before it was dry so I got free henna painted finger tips!
27/05/08: Robyn and John left at 3:45am to visit Abu Simbel Temple but we choose to sleep in and check out the markets of Aswan - Kerry totally ripped off a guy buying my galabaya dress for the Cruise party that night - although Kerry reckons you can never rip off a hawker!
Over night our boat shifted positions ready for sailing and I slept through it! Hence we had to walk through another boat to get to shore. We visited the unfinished obelisk - they are carved from a complete piece of stone and used ramps to shift the huge weights. We then went onwards to the High dam which provides all the power needed for 60 million Egyptians - or those that can afford power! Egypt's main income: 1. Suez channel, 2. oil & gas exports, 3. Tourism.
In the early afternoon we set sail along the Nile towards Luxor. We spent a lot of time on the deck checking out the scenery - Kerry had a swim in a rather green pool as it was pretty hot (they did clean it for us that night!)
We stopped in at Kom Ombo Temple - lots of hustling as we ran the stalls gauntlet - Kerry and John had a lot of fun back in the boat with their Fez hats on, drinking local steller beers and laughing at the last of the day tourists being harassed!
That night we had a lovely seated dinner and Egyptian party on the deck - a few drinks later we got to know the group heaps better!
I fell into histerics when i went back to the room and saw the steward had made a person with towels and my dress and sunglasses - I will see if I can find a photo!
